Maisie Williams's X-Men Spinoff Will Be A Horror Movie
X-Men: The New Mutants will be “a full-fledged horror movie”.
Well this is a surprise! Apparently the new spin-off X-Men: The New Mutants will be a very different kettle of fish to the rest of the franchise, with director Josh Boone describing the new film as “a full-fledged horror movie”.
“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe," says Boone. "There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We're trying to do something very, very different."
“We love that Fox wants to make all these different X-Men spin-offs as drastically different as they can,” continues the director. “You can't have a bigger nerd or fan making this. It's so important to me.”
So far, Boone has recruited Maisie Williams to play Wolfsbane (above) and Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, with 13 Reasons Why actor Henry Zaga expected to sign up to play Sunspot. Rosario Dawson is also said to be in talks to join the project, with the star in line to play Celiai Reyes, who serves as a kind of mentor figure to the young mutants.
With cameras set to begin rolling in July, expect more casting news sooner rather than later. X-Men: The New Mutants will open in the UK on 13 April 2018.
