YouTube Are Now Blocking Videos Of The ‘Dangerous’ Tide Pod Challenge
The company have announced that they will be removing the videos.
YouTube have announced that they’re blocking videos of people taking the Tide Pod Challenge after the viral trend saw content creators ingesting laundry detergent as a way to rack up their video views.
Poison control centres, multiple watchdogs, and Tide manufacturer Procter & Gamble themselves have condemned the trend and pointed out that swallowing dangerous chemicals could potentially prove deadly.
Let's get checking out an update from MTV News...
In a statement, a YouTube spokesperson announced that the company have decided to take action about the videos in the name of upholding their community guidelines and safeguarding the health of their viewers.
“YouTube’s community guidelines prohibit content that’s intended to encourage dangerous activities that have an inherent risk of physical harm. We work to quickly remove flagged videos that violate our policies,” they announced.
Commentary videos discussing the trend will remain on the site, while videos featuring the Tide Pod challenge itself will be systematically removed from YouTube in due course.
Procter & Gamble previously made an announcement warning people off participating in the craze: “We are deeply concerned about conversations related to intentional and improper use of liquid laundry pacs, and have been working with leading social media networks to remove harmful content that is not consistent with their policies.
“They should not be played with, whatever the circumstance, even if meant as a joke.”
