“My Life Has Changed So Much In The Last Two Years” - Yungen On YouTube, Criticism & New Material

“I don’t look at YouTube comments, man. I feel like people on YouTube just always want to be the funniest guy."

“Man wanna talk about me at the MOBO’s like I ain’t earned it, man wanna talk about my nomination like I don’t deserve it.”

This was Yungen’s first shot back at Chip (on the track ‘Comfy’) in a beef that made itonto 'Channel 4 News'. (Channel 4 News!) The feud has been well chronicled, particularly by Sian Anderson for Noisey, but, when MTV met with Yungen a year on from the beef that even 'Shaun of the Dead's'Krishnan Guru-Murthy got excited about, the South Londoner is very much over the feud. Chilled, making jokes andsinging Adele's praises (quite right, too), Yungen is just excited about what 2017 has in store for him.

As Yungen tells us, he feels like he's changed, that he's more mature, "At 23, I still felt I was a kid. I was still getting away with doing very young stuff. But, now, it’s at the point where I have to take life very seriously.”

With another track with frequent collaborator Sneakbo ('Do It Right') out now and more on the way, 2017 is set to be Yungen’s year.

MTV sat down with Yungen to talk about criticism (“I feel like people on YouTube just always want to be the funniest guy”), what he’s into at the moment ("I listen to a lot of ‘deep’ music"), getting feedback from fans in the street ("Some people tell me, ‘I don’t like it when you rap like that.’"), and what’s inspired his new material. Watch the interview below.
