Soundtrack for Wish I Was Here – Zach Braff: “I’m a music geek”
Zach Braff – who won a Grammy for the Soundtrack of his previous film “Garden State” – came into MTV studios to talk us through his choice of music for his film “Wish I was Here”.
When asked if the soundtrack reflected his personal taste in music he replied, “Yes, completely… I make giant playlists and …there’s no science to it, just trial and error! …it’s visceral….the hair on my arm is standing up – this is a good candidate!”
The title track of the film came courtesy of Coldplay and Zach explained “I’m friends with Chris Martin, I showed him the film and he really really loved it and then he and Coldplay… wrote the song and then …he had the idea it was a female voice that he would harmonise with….he suggested Cat Power and ….she was extraordinary and Chris sang harmony and the band recorded the song… and it’s a really really beautiful song”.
And despite his own success, Zach seemed a tiny bit star struck himself: “My favourite artist watched the film and wrote music that we folded back into the movie, that’s really unique!”
