People Are Kicking Off At Zane Lowe For Rescoring The Drive Soundtrack

The Radio 1 DJ has curated an alternate soundtrack for the cult film…

News broke last night that Radio 1 DJ, pioneer of new music and MTV old guard, Zane Lowe, is re-imagining the Drive soundtrack – but fans of the RyGos movie aren’t happy.

To be aired next week on BBC Three, Lowe’s take on the 2011 film will replace the original soundtrack with all new tracks from the likes of SBTRKT, Laura Mvula and Foals.

Drive’s original soundtrack, featuring beautiful original tracks from Kavinsky and composer Cliff Martinez, won the film as much credibility as the storyline and acting.

Inevitably, the Twitterati have started kicking off in reaction to the news that Lowe will rescore what has previously been considered a masterpiece. Mixmag had the following to say:

- "@zanelowe Oh we'll be watching Mr Lowe. Intrigued is the best way to describe our emotions. We'll let you know what we think."

Zane Lowe gave a good game following it up, and a little back and forth ensued, proving that Twitter can indeed be used for friendly debate rather than just mindless trolling.

Less amicable debate has however opened up, with someone even going as far as to start an (albeit poorly contributed to) online petitionto stop the soundtrack going ahead.

Will the film make the haters bite their tongues? We’ll have to wait and see. Drive Rescored airs on BBC Three on Wednesday 28th October.
