One Direction fans were sent into a frenzy last night (July 23) after estranged member Zayn Malik reached out to Liam Payne on their five year anniversary.

Afterheartfelt messages from Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson (and no, he didn't mention the baby) on the day that 1D were born on 'X Factor', Liam then took to Twitter to thank his bandmates.

Payne wrote: "Wowwwww 5 years 5 boys what an amazing journey I couldn't thank you all ever enough and thank you Louis Niall Harry and zayn for everything."

He then added: "Thanks for all the memories boys I love you all."

After seeing Liam's message, Malik responded: "Thanks bro! x", accompanying his short but sweet tweet with a smiley face emoji.

Payne was the only member of 1D to get a reaction from Zayn and is yet to reply. However, fans were over the moon that the pair had interacted on the social-networking site:
