You wouldn't blame Zayn Malik for feeling like leaving the country after the amount of press attention he's had in recent weeks.

But it seems the former One Direction star could be doing exactly that - and not just on holiday.

The Mirror newspaper reports that the 22-year-old has started house-hunting in Los Angeles - where he'll pursue solo pop stardom.

"Zayn is relishing the opportunity to make a new start," a mole told the tabloid.

"He is single and solo, his career is in America and he absolutely loves Los Angeles, so he wants to stay. He is currently looking for the perfect home. He is so excited about it."

Zayn is claimed to have a budget of around £3m and to be looking in the Hollywood Hills.

The news - if true - will come as no surprise to his followers on social media.

Just last week he was raving about the city on Twitter, writing: "Been amazing day today! Love LA love the weather, love all of you life is good."

Zayn signed to RCA records last month and is currently writing his first solo album.
