Zayn Malik's Debut Solo Track 'Pillowtalk' Has Already Achieved What One Direction's Singles Never Could

It's kinda broken a few records.

First of all, don't shoot the messenger. Secondly, Zayn Malik's first solo single, PILLOWTALK, has already reached success that One Direction never could.

Having debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, the track immediately charted higher than 1D's best effort of No.2 with 'Best Song Ever'.

But he's not stopped there, also being the first artist whose name starts with a Z to reach the top spot (pretty niche, that one) as well as becoming the first UK artist to have a new entry reach No.1 with a debut single.

This hasn't happened since 1987 when Belinda Carlisle went solo and released 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth', which is a bit of adated reference but relevant nonetheless.

With his debut album, Mind Of Mine, set for release in March, we have a feeling the record-breaking has only just begun.
