Zayn Opens Up About Struggling With A 'Serious' Eating Disorder During His One Direction Days
He reveals all in his new autobiography.
Zayn Malik has revealed in his new autobiography that he suffered from a 'serious' eating disorder during his final months as a member of One Direction.
In his autobiography titled 'Zayn', he told his fans that he felt that food was 'the one thing is his life he could control'.
The 23-year-old revealed how when he looked back to images of himself, he could see how ill he was.
He admitted: "Something I've never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder.
“It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that, I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all. It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognise it for what it was.
“I had lost so much weight I had become ill. The workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of everything going on within the band had badly affected my eating habits”, he added.
It was around that time that Zayn was forced to deny rumours of drug abuse as the reason behind his gaunt looks.
He also discusses his diagnosis with ADHD and anxiety, which he is continuing to battle.
Thanks for speaking out, Zayn!
