Who Wants To Visit Hyrule’s Landmarks In Real Life?

IT'S. REAL.

We all know that Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule offers one of gaming’s most fantastic places to explore, not least because the landscape is stuffed with some of the most beautiful landmarks we’ve ever seen.

So, you can imagine our surprise when we found out that some of Hyrule’s most recognisable places are right here on Earth!

The clever person who spotted the resemblance - who is maintaining their anonymity through Kotaku - noticed that Hyrule’s Duelling Peaks shares an uncanny resemblance with a mountain in Sato Island, Japan. Whilst not identical (Sato Island’s mountain doesn’t split all the way down, we’re told), you can see the similarities, right?

There’s also reports that Sato Island’s gold mine - shuttered in 1989 and now a tourist attraction - also bears a resemblance to some of BotW’s catacombs beneath Hyrule castle.

The photographer who took the shots suggested to Kotaku that "maybe there are lots more Duelling Peaks or other Zelda-esque locations in the world and readers will add their photos in the comments." So… what are you waiting for, Triforce Defender? Get searching!

If Japan’s a little out of the way for you, don’t forget that you can also explore a more modest version of Hyrule when this real-action Zelda puzzle game comes to the UK! Oh, and did you read this super cute story of a student achieving his dreams and working for Nintendo?
