Zoella Is Using Her Platform To Do All Kinds Of Good And This Is How

HBD ZOELLA

On average, Zoella’s YouTube channel is viewed for 83.6 MILLION minutes every month, and for good reason. Besides being an awesome beauty vlogger and basically the world’s best friend, Zoella uses her platform to do a lot of a good.

What with it being her birthday today (HBD ZOELLA) we thought we take a look at a few of these things that make her our absolute internet fave. CHECK IT.

Mental Health

Zoella has been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks since she was 14. She often talks about the way people assume that because she vlogs to so many millions every day that she’s always super-confident and happy but that actually, “Sometimes I have days where I don't want to leave my bed, or I'll have multiple panic attacks”.

She says, “I am passionate about the need for everyone to feel ok to speak out, to talk to friends and family about what they’re going through, to ask for help” and as a result she became a Digital Ambassador for Mind, the mental health charity, back in 2014.

Since then Zoella has done loads of awesome vlogs encouraging people to speak more openly about mental health and has even launched her own campaign, the #DontPanicButton campaign, which aims to destigmatise mental health issues by openly discussing them online.

Trekstock

Last year Zoella launched a campaign tosupport Trekstock, a charity that supports young people battling with cancer and their journey beyond treatment. It came in the form of acharity raffle to win basically the most awesome prize ever, the chance to hang out with her for the day! The campaign raised over $60,000 with other prizes including t-shirts, personalised videos and skype chats with Zoella.

Body Image

Zoella often talks about body image, slut-shaming and just generally being okay with the way you look. Whether it’s teaming up with bessie mate Sprinkle of Glitter to talk about her own experience with comments on her weight, shutting down the press for slut-shaming her or blogging about how to be confident and happy with the way you look, Zoella says, “I hope one day we will live in a world where promoting self-love & body confidence won't be sexualised or shamed.” SAME.

Haters

Since the internet can be a horrible place sometimes, even Zoella has her fair share of haters (who are these people!?) but she doesn’t let them get her down. Talking about her own experience and offering advice to anyone else who’s ever had to deal with negativity online Zoella’s advice is simple: “surround yourself with really positive people”.

Speaking to 'OK' last year she said, “If you have someone saying something on social media that's making you upset, I think it's really important to have that handful of people who make you feel good and to focus on those people who support you and you have a good time with.”

So as Zoella continues to basically win the internet we just want to take this moment to say how glad we are that someone with as much influence as Zoella is using that influence to do so much great stuff in the world. Whether it’s helping people with difficult issues, raising money or just generally making us feel great with a her awesome, sunny personality, Zoella is goals in all walks of life. Long may she reign queen of the internet. HAPPY BRITHDAY ZOELLA.
