Simon Cowell, who lives and works in the area, began contacting the names in his address book to raise funds for the victims under the banner 'Artists For Grenfell'. On his decision to create the charity single he said: "I was watching the news and then I drove up to see the building which is around the corner. I’ve seen a lot of bad things and not far from where I was sitting.
"It dawned on you. It sent chills through you. What hit home was seeing that wall and seeing all of those messages.
"I saw how residents turned up with water and clothes and that’s when I thought I’m not going to sit here and do nothing. For someone in my position to do nothing would be appalling."
Soon after the tragedy, stars including Adele and Rita Ora were among those on the ground giving support. Although not confirmed, Cowell added: "I would love to get Adele on the record, after she did what she did."
The stars and producers have been gathering at Sarm Studios on Ladbroke Grove, half a mile from Grenfell Tower, and working tirelessly to get the single ready for release on Wednesday 21st June at 8am.
