Tom Hiddleston Faces Backlash For 'Self-Serving' Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

Tom Hiddleston accused of being self-serving in Golden Globe Acceptance Speech

Tom Hiddleston has been mocked on social media for his Golden Globes acceptance speech after relaying a story about the impact of The Night Manageron medicsin South Sudan.

As a UN Ambassador, Tom decided to use his win in the Best Actor In A Miniseries or TV Motion Picture category to highlight the humanitarianian crisis happening in the country.

Which, you know, is a good thing in itself.

But, things took an unexpected turn when he finished the monologue by neatly plugginghis own series; with many ridiculing the speech as being 'self-serving' and 'self-righteous'.

Tom began his speech in a promising way, starting: "A quick story, I know it's been a long night. I recently went to South Sudan, which is the youngest country in the world - in east Africa, with the United Nations Children's Fund. I do a little bit of work with them, try to spread the word as best I can. It's a terrible situation happening for children."

So far so good, right?

He then continued:"They were a group of Médecins Sans Frontières doctors and nurses and they wanted to say hello because during the shelling the previous month they had binge watched the Night Manager.

"The idea that I could provide - or that we could provide some relief and entertainment for the people that work for UNICEF and Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Food Programme who are fixing the world in the places where it is broken made me immensely proud. So I dedicate this to those out there who are doing their best."

The internet immediately erupted with people slamming Tom for being the 'white-saviour' in his own story, with others pointing out thatthe audience were baffled by his speech.

Still, UNICEFhad a positive reaction toTom's speech, posting: "#GoldenGlobes - Thank you @twhiddleston for calling attention to #SouthSudan - and congrats on your win! @unicefssudan @MSF @WFP @UN"

So, at least there's that.
