Halsey took to the EMAs stage tonight for the live premiere of her new single ‘Without Me’.

The pop star teased a major performance on social media prior to this evening and she did not lie, as she surprised everyone with the most elaborately minimal set-up possible.

Chained to a box, she sang the vulnerable ballad with the kind of raw emotion we would expect and her live vocals sounded just as incredible as they do on record.

She battled her way out of chains and finally unboxed herself by the end of the moving performance, showing the power in her vulnerability as it was totally badass.

Things got wet throughout and finished with Halsey singing in the pouring rain onstage à la Stormzy at the BRITs. Oh, we all love a bit of pathetic fallacy, don’t we?

‘Without Me’ is a one-off single that follows the singer’s first UK Number 1 single ‘Eastside’, with Benny Blanco and Khalid, and will lead into her upcoming third album.

She is only getting bigger and better with every release - and performance! - so we cannot wait to see what she brings to the table next.
