The Heartbreaking Truth Behind The Hot Tub Scene In To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Peter Kavinsky wasn’t waiting for Lara Jean. Sob.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve seen Netflix’s latest rom com To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and adored it.

Just to break our hearts though, it turns out that one of the most pivotal scenes in Lara Jean Convey’s and Peter Kavinsky’s budding romance, where they both spend time together in a hot tub on the school ski trip, isn’t what it seems… Like, at all.

FYI, there’s spoilers ahead, so consider yourself warned.

Just moments before Lara Jean joins Peter in the hot tub, she confesses to Lucas that she has developed actual feelings towards Peter, even though their relationship at this time is all for show.

But Lucas bets LJ that Peter is down for a real relationship, and that he’s probs sat in the hot tub waiting for her. It turns out he was and wasn’t.

Like, he was 100% sat in the hot tub but just wasn’t waiting on LJ to come along and confess her feelings.

In the sequel to the book version of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – P.S. I Still Love You, Peter confesses that he was in fact waiting for Genevieve. Well, kind of.

In the trilogy’s second book Lara Jean asks Peter if he was actually waiting for her that night, as after the whole hot tub romantic sitch, Peter went to Genevieve’s room. Ouch.

So it’s a reasonable question to ask and Peter’s silence speaks volumes, even though Peter later revealed that he only went to Gen’s room afterwards to end things with her. Meaning that even though he wasn’t waiting for Lara Jean, he defo felt something that night.

This changes everything. Doesn't it?
