Lea Michele Admits The Fan Backlash She Got From Moving On From Cory Monteith Was ‘Really Hard’

The star finds it difficult to be reminded about Cory so often.

It’s been over two years since the tragic death of Glee star Cory Monteith, but Lea Michele has revealed that her fans still remind her of the extremely painful event – especially when it comes to her new partner.

Lea and Cory had been together for roughly two years when he was found dead in a hotel in Canada, but despite the fact that the actress has been able to move on, that doesn’t mean her supporters have done the same.

Taking part in the podcast Fempire this week, the Scream Queens star discussed the slight backlash she faces on social media whenever she posts about her current boyfriend, Matthew Paetz.

Explaining the difficulty she has with it all, she told the hosts: "I love my fans. They're incredible and they were really a part of my whole story and my whole journey with me, so I do come from a place of understanding, but it's also really hard.

"You know, every time I post a picture, it's just a landslide of comments that talk about my past and bring that up rather than projecting positivity."

"And even though I don't think anyone is really projecting hate - it is positive, it's nothing so, so terrible - at the end of the day, we have to remember that what we put out there, it manifests and it creates energy and you should want to be the person that chooses to take that second to do something positive."

Lea and Matthew first met on the set of her On My Way music video shoot in 2014, and have been dating ever since.

The star had lovely things to say about him, revealing that he’s extremely understanding of the uncomfortable situation.

She added: “I have to say, that is honestly what I love so much about Matt.

“That's honestly what is so incredible about him because at the end of the day, this industry is really tough and the only way to really get through is to create a solid unit. And that's really what we have been since day one.

"He also is very respectful for the person that I was with. And that again is something that I love so much about him and I really know that Cory would love him too.”
